As an academician, I am used to handle reams and reams of paper. We just can’t cope up our daily chores without paper. However, I am consciously trying to use other methods of documentation such as scanning software, storing academic papers as e-documents so that I too can be proud to have contributed in a small way towards Green Revolution.
I have been lagging behind even the Government departments as far as using digital documentation. Very recently, I was simply asked to scan my id documents and send it through email by the IT department.
Scanners have come along way to reach its present status among Real Estate and Health industry. These two industries used to be the maximum users of papers.
Oh yes, I should include the Legal industry too among the top users of paper and they too have started using scanners to share and store important legal documents.
Still, I feel the legal department should consciously cut down the usage of papers. There is room for improvement.
As a math teacher, I need to create at least one slideshow a week to my students. I generally upload images that depict quick ways of solving complex problems. I hire a local computer educated person to create the slide show. The entire process would take at least an hour.
Half an hour before, I came across a desktop application called ‘Smile Box’. This is probably the easiest web tool to create customized slideshows in just two minutes provided you have the pictures ready with you.
I just tried this magic tool. I downloaded it and when I launched it, it immediately gathered all the images stored in my PC at various places. Following on screen instructions, I clicked a few buttons and before I realized, the slideshow was ready.
What a fantastic creation! If only it is popular, every educationist, businessperson and people from different occupations would be using Smile Box, the easiest slideshow making desktop tool.
I am happy to see my favorite Compaq’s netbooks priced at just $270 apiece. All the other leading manufacturers like Acer, Samsung can’t compete with Compaq’s price tag.
My first Laptop was a Compaq piece that is still showing loyalty to me though it has slowed down a lot. In the past three years, I noticed a slump in Compaq’s sales. Dell and Samsung have grabbed much of Compaq’s market share.
The new netbook from Compaq comes with 1 GB Ram and 160 GB hard disc. Of course, it is powered by Intel Atom processor. I wonder why there is no mention about its battery life. If the battery power lasts for only two hours, even I, a loyal fan of Compaq won’t buy it, however cheap it may be sold at buy.com
Come on Compaq! I wish to see you regain your brand image.
