Diamonds are not forever these days.

If I am right, loose diamonds and diamond jewelry have lost considerable ground in India. I believe, in the rest of the world, diamond still commands its due respect.

Why I am of this shocking opinion? Two of my friends, who are traditional diamond merchants, have closed their diamonds dealings because of lack of patronage.

They feel that the diamond market is full of fake diamonds and real diamonds have become very rare. That is the main reason for lack of buyers.

What it implies is Indians have learnt to identify fake diamonds. Moreover, there is no market for used loose diamonds. This is a serious setback for diamond merchants.

Even in our family circles, diamond engagement rings are not favored anymore. Oh little diamonds, where have you gone?
